I ♥ Canada

Barring a US-led invasion of Canada, things are looking up.

This post is a bit out of the ordinary but I was reading something today that made me fiercly proud to be Canadian.

-Vast reserves of oil and natural gas in the ground will some day make Canada the world's largest supplier of fossil fuels to the world

-When the method of efficiently extracting the oil reserves from the Canadian oil sands is perfect...Canada will even match or surpass the likes of Saudi Arabia and become one of the richest nations on Earth...

-The world will continue to need our commodities; whether the aforementioned energy products, base metals, lumber, precious metals, water, power forthe likes of Quebec, grains from the prairies, and the list goes on.

-Canada is the only country in the G-8 that does not have a budget deficit; in fact in the past 10 years where the U.S. national debt has almost doubled to over $9 trillion, Canada has actually paid off over $92 billion on our soverign debt.

-Canada is going to become the lowest taxed regime corporately in the industrialized world, with federal income tax on businesses coming down to 15% in the next five years; an invitation for industries and corporations of the world to set up shop in our country.

-Canada is and will more so become the darling of the investment world. We have seen it burgeon since 2002 when the Canadian dollar started to turn from the record lows all the way up tp to this past month when we reach modern day record highs. That is the world knocking on our door to buy "us" and having to buy Canadian dollars to do so...

-Canada is safe geo-politically, has a stable government, and invites the world to our doorstep.

Who wants to take bets that our Canadian dollar will continue to slowly climb over the coming months and may one day in the coming years climb to as high as $1.30 US?   I say the odds are pretty damn good!

Comment: You don't hear too much Canadian pride these days. Rock on. I wish our corporate taxes and national debt were down and we were allowed to drill for the new oil we are finding.

Hi,

if you are clever you'll invest in physical silver and gold as within the next year the world will suffer a worldwide recession and a collaps of pretty much ALL major currencies.

Regards,

Mike

I just came from Toronto. As someone that has never traveled out of the States, I was amazed and surprised at the lifestyle in Toronto and assume it is the same in the rest of Canada.

I was very much pleased and wish to return soon

We've got problems with our rep based on the environment (search for fossil award and you'll see Canada's been winning it at the recent climate summit).

Our personal taxes are still some of the highest in the world, so I don't care if our corporate taxes drop... it does the common Canadian little good (SEO's are not common Canadians, and hide in corporations, so personally it's good, but if it's not good for my brothers, is it really good?)

We're not allowed to buy our self-produced oil at reasonable prices, so the pump is still bounding up and down for Canadians (though cheap compared to the world at large).

We don't have a budget deficit anymore, but commenter Mike is right - we're not a gold backed currency, it's paper - it's an economy on stilts much like the US - so it's actually extremely vulnerable.

But it's still nice being Canadian - we've got some crap to work through,  but it's a damn good place to live while we work on it.

except the cold. I'm so sick of the cold.

BC is where I live (Vancouver). Lots of folks head into the BC interior for summer work/vacation. Its great!

We all live so close to the border because it gets cold REAL quick as you start going north. Thats why most of the countries population is close to the border...
